Location Of The War Museum

EDM number 609 in 1996-97, proposed by David Alton on 05/03/1997.

That this House notes the decision to locate the new War Museum at Trafford Park and Salford Quays and expresses concern that an alternative site on Merseyside was rejected; recalls the suffering and widespread destruction experienced in the Greater Liverpool area during World War Two; recognises the phenomenal success of the Albert Dock as a location for the War Museum was pre-eminent; and expresses dismay that Manchester has received ú36 million to upgrade their museums and galleries, ú22 million for a concert hall and velodrome, and permission to extend the Manchester Airport, while Liverpool's submissions for a national museum of sport and as a location for the Museum of War were rejected.
