Solidarity With Workers

EDM number 626 in 1996-97, proposed by Teddy Taylor on 10/03/1997.

That this House, being concerned about the social and human tragedies involved in unemployment, expresses its sympathy for the five million workers made redundant in the rest of the EU over the past five years, and to the thousands losing their jobs each week in France and Germany in consequence of the economic nonsense of fixed exchange rates; and urges the trade unions and Her Majesty's Government to reflect on the wise counsel of the great majority of British businesses opposed to early participation in the single currency and the 20 per cent. now opposed to the United Kingdom ever participating, and to the prudent warnings of Mr Takahashi, managing director of Toyota Europe, about the inflexibility and dangers involved in the United Kingdom's early participation in the Euro.

This motion has been signed by a total of 4 MPs.
