New Electoral Registers (No. 2)

That this House notes that with the exception of those who attain their 18th birthday during the period of the operation of the new electoral registers, the total numbers registered respectively in Northern Ireland and Scotland are 1,190,198 and 3,984,406; further notes that these figures show marginal increases over the numbers appearing on the equivalent registers in 1996; but is at a loss to understand why the National Office of Statistics on behalf of the Treasury is unable to supply electoral registration figures for England and Wales until after this House has been dissolved for a General Election.
