Orsett Hospital And Basildon And Thurrock Hospital Trust

EDM number 695 in 1996-97, proposed by Andrew Mackinlay on 19/03/1997.

That this House recognises the deep resentment still felt by the people of Thurrock at the closure of their accident and emergency department five years ago; considers that the proposal to now dispose of hospital lands surrounding the residual Orsett Hospital operations is foolhardy in the extreme and ignores the fact that land for hospital and related facilities will inevitably be required in the Thurrock area to meet the population growth of this Borough; supports the objections of Thurrock's Labour controlled council to be presented at the public inquiry in May that will consider the Hospital Trust's application to develop the site for purposes other than health care; and hopes that the membership of the Basildon and Thurrock Hospital Trust will be substantially altered after the next General Election so that it is more sensitive to the wishes and interests of the people of Basildon and Thurrock.
