Policies Of Animal Rights Organisations

EDM number 725 in 1996-97, proposed by David Steel on 20/03/1997.

That this House notes that the new director of the League Against Cruel Sports, Mr John Bryant, in his book reprinted in 1990, called for the phasing out of existence of all domestic pets and an end to horse riding, and that the Director of Compassion in World Farming, Joyce D'Silva, has written hoping also for the liberation of domestic animals and an end to the demand for meat, milk and eggs; notes that her book was dedicated to Ronnie Lee, who has served a prison sentence for terrorist activity on behalf of the Animal Liberation Front; and hopes that in the coming election campaign all parliamentary candidates will learn to draw a clear distinction between the extremist views of animal rightists and those who seek to enhance animal welfare.
