Northern Ireland Airport Police

EDM number 727 in 1996-97, proposed by Andrew Mackinlay on 20/03/1997.

That this House notes that the spirit, if not the letter, of undertakings given by the Government to the House and the policemen and women who make up the Northern Ireland Airport Police at the time of privatisation of Belfast International Airport about their management, representative body and operational independence, are not being fulfilled by the operators; and calls for the Minister in the new administration formed after the General Election to meet both the management and operators of the Airport, honourable Members who took part in the privatisation debate in the House and the Northern Ireland Airports Police Association in order to protect and promote the individual employment rights, pay and conditions of service of the police officers, their independence as constables, and to set up and agree an independent police committee for this force.
