Ferris Wheel And The Homeless

EDM number 81 in 1996-97, proposed by Jeremy Corbyn on 28/10/1996.

That this House is depressed that Lambeth Council has granted planning permission for a 500 foot giant ferris wheel on the South Bank of the Thames; believes it to be an eyesore and totally inappropriate for that site; is further concerned that vast amounts of money are being expended on millennium projects of dubious or no value when the over-riding priority should be to ensure a roof over the head of everyone; accordingly calls upon the Government to halt the ferris wheel project and ensure that the resources allocated for it are directed to the needs of the homeless and poorly housed.
