Aberdeenshire Council And School Transport

EDM number 1603 in 1997-98, proposed by Alex Salmond on 23/07/1998.

That this House condemns the decision by the Liberal/Independent administration of Aberdeenshire Council to withdraw free school transport for many secondary school children previously entitled; notes that this will lead to an increase in the numbers of children transported to school by car, contrary to the Government's stated aim to reduce such school-run journeys; further notes with concern the road safety situation at Banff Academy where children from the neighbouring Burgh of Macduff who will be forced to walk to school will be faced with the hazards of walking along a main road at peak times and crossing a narrow bridge with narrow pavements; and calls on the council to review this decision.

This motion has been signed by a total of 2 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
