Nantygwyddon Landfill Site (No. 2)

EDM number 1055 in 2001-02, proposed by Simon Thomas on 21/03/2002.

That this House notes that the European Commission has begun infringement action against the United Kingdom Government in respect of the Nantgwyddon Landfill Site; further notes that the petition accepted by the European Parliament on this matter described birth defects between 1990 and 1996 that were twice the norm, gastroschisis cases that were almost 10 times the average and therapeutic abortions that were three times higher than expected (1992 to 1996); further notes that the landfill site was built with European money intended for tourism projects; condemns the Labour-run local authority in the Rhondda for opening and keeping open the site; congratulates the now Plaid Cymru-run Rhondda Cynon Taf authority for keeping its promise and closing the site; and demands a Ministerial statement on the Government's response to the EU action and its plans for remedial funding.

This motion has been signed by a total of 2 MPs.
