Nantygwyddon Landfill Site

EDM number 584 in 2001-02, proposed by Elfyn Llwyd on 13/12/2001.

That this House congratulates Plaid Cymru and Rhondda Cynon Taf County Council for closing the Nantygwyddon Landfill Site; notes the council's election promise to close the tip; further notes the success of the new leadership of the council, under the direction of Pauline Jarman AM, in turning around the economic predicament of the council; condemns the former Labour-run Rhondda Cynon Taf council for opening the site so close to people's homes and in such an unsuitable location; questions the dubious nature of the use of European funding to finance the project; further condemns the former Welsh Office for approving the site's application for European funding to help tourism and industry; is concerned by the Environment Agency's refusal to respond to public complaints; and urges the Public Accounts Committee to investigate the funding of the tip and the actions of all relevant bodies involved.

This motion has been signed by a total of 6 MPs.
