Upgrading A9 To Dual Carriageway;amdt. Line 1:

EDM number 787A1 in 2002-03, proposed by Mark Lazarowicz on 27/02/2003.

leave out from 'House' to end and add 'notes that the provision of dual carriageway along the entire length of the A9 between Perth and Inverness would lead to a substantial increase in traffic, and thus road accidents, along the entire length of that road and many of its feeder routes; further notes that such dualling of the A9 would be likely to result in existing traffic congestion on the A9 simply being replicated on roads to the north of Inverness; believes that the best way of reducing accidents on the A9 would be by imposing lower speed limits on all non-dual carriageway sections of the road combined with extended provision of fixed and mobile speed cameras along with the requisite policing resources; and further believes that the many hundreds of millions of pounds that would be required to upgrade the entire length of the A9 from Perth to Inverness would be better directed to upgrading the rail infrastructure and rail services between Inverness and the south, and also to the north of Inverness.'.

This is a ammendment to 787.
