British Sporting Endeavours In The World Cup

EDM number 2313 in 2005-06, proposed by Gregory Campbell on 07/06/2006.

That this House notes the habitual references by mainly English sports reporters when referring to successful athletes or teams from Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales in describing them as British winners but on the occasions of the same athletes and teams not winning, they are described as being unsuccessful Ulster, Scots or Welsh losers; and nonetheless looks forward to the World Cup when the British team called England will hopefully return with the label of World Champions rather than losing in the semi-finals where they would then be unfortunate to be described as having that typically English trait of giving a good account of themselves but not being quite good enough.
