Closure Of Royal Bank Of Scotland In Mauchline

EDM number 1176 in 2016-17, proposed by Alan Brown on 25/04/2017.
Categorised under the topic of Financial services.

That this House notes with regret the decision of the Royal Bank of Scotland to close its branch in Mauchline; recognises that the decision follows the decision by the Royal Bank of Scotland to previously close Catrine Branch and other branches in Cumnock and Doon Valley and expresses dismay on the wide area affected by those closures; acknowledges significant local and national concern at the effect those closures will have on small and rural communities, and on businesses and individuals, particularly older people, those with disabilities and those that do not have access to the internet or other connectivity solutions; further notes that the stock answer of reduced footfall and services being accessible at the Post Office is not good enough; and requests the Government to review the model of banking regulation in the UK and to introduce a focus on customer service to require local banking service provision that will promote and sustain local economies.
