High Court Ruling On Article 50

EDM number 648 in 2016-17, proposed by Natalie McGarry on 03/11/2016.
Categorised under the topics of Central government, Constitution, EU law and treaties and Ministers.

That this House welcomes the ruling from the High Court of 3 November 2016 that declared that the Government does not have the power under the Crown's prerogative to give notice pursuant to Article 50 to withdraw from the EU; believes that hon. and right hon. Members should have an opportunity adequately to discuss and debate the Government's proposals before Article 50 is triggered, as should be standard in a parliamentary democracy such as the UK; and calls on the Government now to respect the ruling from the High Court and to commit to taking the necessary steps to ensure that Article 50 is not triggered without the consent of hon. and right hon. Members.
