Waid Academy Eco-Schools Success

That this House congratulates staff and pupils of Waid Academy, Anstruther, on their commitment to Scotland's Eco-Schools Programme; recognises that the school earned its first green flag in 2005 and throughout the last 12 years has developed school policies that benefit the environment; notes that the committee, led by Mrs Alice Pearson, a biology teacher at Waid Academy, discusses the full range of environmental issues outlined by the Eco-Schools scheme, including energy and water-use surveys of the school, tree planting, vegetable and herb gardening, recycling, school litter picks, bird box building, the school travel plan and an annual Climate Challenge for second year pupils; commends initiatives such as the school's annual beach clean where first-year pupils pick litter on local beaches from Elie to Crail; and looks forward to hearing of the future successes of Waid Academy in supporting the environment around the East Neuk of Fife.
