Merger Of Health Authorities

EDM number 1279 in 1992-93, proposed by Alan Milburn on 28/01/1993.

That this House condemns the decision of the Northern Regional Health Authority meeting on 26th January 1993 to force a merger of Darlington and South West Durham health authorities in the face of opposition from local people, National Health Service staff, community health councils, local authorities and honourable Members; believes that the merger will further distance health services from the local communities they serve and that it will be followed by a rationalisation in patient services; and calls on the Secretary of State for Health to refuse permission for the merger to proceed.
