Measures To Help The Homeless

EDM number 1173 in 1989-90, proposed by Ronnie Fearn on 25/06/1990.

That this House agrees that short-term measures, though welcome, are not the answer to the homeless crisis in Britain; calls upon the Government to look for more permanent and long-term solutions, including the release of capital receipts from council house sales to enable local authorities to invest in the provision of new housing, and to introduce measures which will give local authorities greater freedom to carry out repairs to empty properties; and further agrees that only when this Government takes urgent action to build for the future and to enable access to affordable housing will the homeless situation begin to improve.

This motion has been signed by a total of 14 MPs.
