Inquiry Into Commonwealth Games Council For Wales

EDM number 451 in 1989-90, proposed by Rhodri Morgan on 05/02/1990.

That this House commends Welsh track and field athletics officials David Williams, Malcolm Arnold and Margaret Elgie, for proposing before the Welsh Commonwealth Games team left for Auckland that the entire team should be given a drugs test before they got on the plane; expresses its astonishment and distaste that the team manager, Myrddin John, did not act on this proposal; and asks that the Sports Council for Wales extend its proposed inquiry into the drug disqualification of two medal winning weightlifters to cover the constitution and procedures of the Commonwealth Games Council for Wales, in particular to investigate how a person with an admitted past involvement with anabolic steroids came to be chosen as the Welsh team's overall manager for the Games.

This motion has been signed by a total of 21 MPs.
