Probation Service Resources

EDM number 535 in 1989-90, proposed by Alan Meale on 14/02/1990.

That this House believes that the expertise of the probation service should be built upon and developed by allowing adequate levels of resourcing which would allow the service to reduce re-offending by constructive intervention in the lives of offenders; and recognises that punishment in the community and new technical surveillance techniques have little, if any, relevance to this aim, as also have not reductions in the levels of funding, contracting out, or privatisation of parts of the probation service.

This motion has been signed by a total of 31 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
