International Audio Text, Director General Of Telecommunications And British Telecom

EDM number 555 in 1989-90, proposed by Terry Lewis on 15/02/1990.

That this House notes recent developments in the field of international audiotext; notes particularly that Telecom Australia has established the first global audiotext publishing network; warns that this will be open to United Kingdom service providers who will charge Chatline and other services out at rates of 81 pence and 101 pence per minute; draws attention to the appalling legacy of family and business debt already caused by the telephone industry's premium rate services; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government, yet again, to establish the proper regulatory machinery which the Director General of OFTEL and BT have conspicuously failed to provide.

This motion has been ammended, see 1175A1.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
