Telecom Australia And Subscriber Choice

EDM number 556 in 1989-90, proposed by Terry Lewis on 15/02/1990.

That this House notes that Telecom Australia offers its subscribers the option of having its equivalent of British Telecom's 0898 numbers barred and that it operates the sensible policy of refusing to introduce audiotext into exchanges where call barring is not yet technically possible; applauds this responsible approach to avoiding the telephonic abuses which have become synonymous with British Telecom plc; and finally calls upon the Board of that company to emulate their Australian counterparts who have demonstrated conclusively that it is technically possible to offer subscribers a choice, a fact BT have denied to date.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
