Widowers Pensions For Teachers

That this House notes the anomaly wherein men and women teachers, although paying the same contributions to the teachers' superannuation scheme, are treated differently in that male teachers secure a pension for their widows whilst no similar provision applies to female teachers; is concerned that women teachers are now being asked to make additional contributions in order to receive the same treatment for their spouses as men; considers this state of affairs to be outrageously unfair and discriminatory; and calls upon the Government to rectify this matter by funding the superannuation scheme in a way that provides equality of access to these pension benefits.
