South Glamorgan And Gwent Ambulance Services
EDM number 579 in 1989-90, proposed by Alun Michael on 19/02/1990.
That this House welcomes the approach adopted by the head of the Gwent Ambulance Service, who has recognised the professionalism and commitment of the ambulance personnel in the county by allowing them to continue undertaking their duties during the present dispute and contrasts this with the more abrasive approach adopted by the South Glamorgan Authority in seeking an injunction to prevent staff operating a similar service; offers no opinion as to the legal rights and wrongs of the matter but considers that the first priority of everyone involved should be to ensure that individuals requiring the aid of the emergency service receive the best and most prompt treatment at all times; and calls on the Secretary of State for Wales to negotiate an end to the dispute in Wales so that management and ambulance workers throughout Wales can put their full energies into the operation of the service.
