Plight Of The Kurdish People

EDM number 418 in 1990-91, proposed by David Alton on 06/02/1991.

That this House notes the comment of the human rights organisation Helsinki Watch that the continuing repression of Kurdish nation, particularly in Iraq, constitutes a staggering list of human rights abuses, arrest, torture, murder, assassination, chemical warfare, mass deportations, expulsions, appalling conditions in refugee camps, refusal of political asylum by the West, denial of ethnic rights to language, literature, and music and the destruction of towns and villages; condemns the genocidal scorched earth policy of Iraq towards the Kurds and particularly the torture of Kurdish children; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to propose the creation of a Kurdish homeland based on the Kurdish provinces in Iraq in any forthcoming inter-governmental discussions on the future of the Middle East.

This motion has been signed by a total of 15 MPs.
