Plebiscite In Lithuania
EDM number 451 in 1990-91, proposed by Margaret Ewing on 11/02/1991.
That this House congratulates the people of Lithuania on their overwhelming support for democratic independence as demonstrated by the 90.47 per cent. positive vote recorded in the plebiscite held on Saturday 9th February; notes this democratic expression of popular will; and extends its support to President Landsbergis and wishes him every success in achieving a peaceful negotiated settlement despite the threat of continued Soviet opposition.
