Parliamentary Hospitality
EDM number 252 in 1991-92, proposed by Paul Flynn on 25/11/1991.
That this House notes that in 1989 the then Leader of the House told the honourable Member for Newport West that Conservative Members had hired the hospitality rooms of the House on 1,399 occasions compared with 305 bookings by members of other parties; is concerned that the present Leader of the House has refused to give this information for the past year; notes that 85 per cent. of eligible Conservative Members have declared paid outside interests compared with less than 15 per cent. of Labour members; regrets that hospitality facilities for parties of children, pensioners and the disabled visiting Parliament are woefully inadequate while lavish subsidised hospitality is available for political party funding groups and commercial groups; and requests that full details are published of the bookings in order that Parliament may determine the future uses of rooms A, B, C and D.
