Nurses Regrading
EDM number 686 in 1991-92, proposed by Martin Redmond on 17/02/1992.
That this House agrees that, in stark contrast to the speed and generosity of pay increases and changes of remunerative structures for NHS and Trust directors and senior managers, the substantial numbers of nurses who still await a settlement of their appeals against grades allocated following the 1988 grading review is a breach of faith with the most devoted and caring employees in this country and is fast approaching a national scandal; further calls for the resignation of the Secretary of State for Health for his and his predecessors' abject failure to ensure that managers promptly and satisfactorily brought these appeals to a mutually accepted conclusion; severely censures directors and managers; and, until all appeals are settled, calls for the performance-related pay of managers and 10 per cent. of the directors' remuneration to be forfeited.
