Nurses Regrading;amdt. Line 1:

EDM number 686A1 in 1991-92, proposed by James Couchman on 24/02/1992.

leave out from 'House' to end and add 'congratulates Her Majesty's Government on the positive steps it has taken in recent years to support and foster the nursing profession, including the setting up of an independent pay review body, a new clinical grading structure to reward extra responsibilities, the introduction of the Project 2000 nurse education scheme, initiatives to improve the recruitment and retention of nurses, an up-dated framework for the regulation of the profession and a 43 per cent real terms increase in nurses pay since 1979 compared to a real terms cut of 3 per cent, under Labour; notes that the Government has always made it clear that they want regrading appeals to be heard fairly and quickly, but that the continuing delay in hearing these appeals is due to the trade unions' past refusal to negotiate a simpler and quicker procedure; welcomes the progress being made by the Nurses and Midwives Negotiating Council towards agreeing new procedures which should speed up the process; and condemns Her Majesty's Opposition, one third of whom are sponsored by health service trade unions, for their party's neglect in Government of nurses' interests.'.

This is a ammendment to 686.
