Greenpeace And The Ozone Layer
EDM number 716 in 1991-92, proposed by Peter Hardy on 19/02/1992.
That this House congratulates Greenpeace upon its efforts to safeguard the ozone layer by seeking the elimination of the production and use of those chemicals which present serious threat; welcomes those steps which individuals and private organisations have so far taken in support of this cause but considers that Her Majesty's Government should take more positive action to bring an end to the production, use and acquisition of chlorofluorocarbons, halons, methyl chloroform and HCFC 22; and notes that there may be an increase in the United Kingdom production of the latter material so extending the effect of ozone depletion, together with the consequential damage to the environment and to the risk and incidence of skin cancer, eye cataracts and other harmful or fatal conditions which could affect man and other animals.
