Addressing The Rise In Crime
EDM number 1555 in 1992-93, proposed by Michael Shersby on 09/03/1993.
That this House is determined to address the rise in crime and believes that law and order should be a very high priority for government, that the police must have the means and powers to protect life and property, that priority should be given to cutting crime among the young, that there should be legislation to reduce the number of offences committed by people on bail, that victims should be helped to recover from their ordeals and that there should be greater emphasis on crime prevention and partnership between the public, the police, local authorities and schools; and believes that local accountability is an essential part of the successful policing of communities, that criminal trials must be a search for the truth and that the punishment should fit the crime, not just the criminal.
This motion has been signed by a total of 79 MPs, 3 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
