Welsh Nationalist Party And Money-Laundering

EDM number 1729 in 1992-93, proposed by Rhodri Morgan on 30/03/1993.

That this House condemns the unduly close relationship between the Welsh Fourth Channel authority, S4C and Barcud cyf. of Caernarfon and the way in which Barcud has been, and is being, subsidised by public money, though Welsh Television programme makers being compelled by S4C to use Barcud producton facilities even though the prices charged by Burcud are frequently 50 per cent. higher than the competition; believes that Barcud channels the excess profits made from these guaranteed monopoly profits into shadowy incestuous associated companies such as Arianrhod cyf;, whose shareholders and directors' names read like a Who's Who of Plaid Cymru prominent supporters in Gwynedd; asserts that Plaid Cymru in Gwynedd is being indirectly subsidised by suitably laundered public money which is unhealthy for Welsh democracy in general and for the Welsh language television industry in particular; and believes that the relationship between S4C and Barcud should be investigated by the Office of Fair Trading, to ensure fair competition and eliminate tax payers subsidies to the Welsh Nationalist Party from now on.
