Stephen Lawrence

That this House expresses its condemnation of the brutal killing of 18-year-old Stephen Lawrence in Eltham, South East London, on Thursday 22nd April, following what Plumstead Police have reported to be a completely senseless and unprovoked racist attack by a group of white youths on a black youth; sends condolences to the parents of Stephen Lawrence; supports the most rapid steps possible to apprehend those responsible for the attack; notes that this follows the murders of Roland Adams and Rohit Duggal and that the number of racist attacks in the area is rising; recognises the high feelings of the local community faced with this latest killing; supports the stance taken so far by the police and local authority in treating this killing with extreme seriousness; and calls on the Home Secretary to discuss the problem of racial violence with the local authority, the police, the local community, and in particular black organisations, and the families of Stephen Lawrence and other victims.
