Legalisation Of Voluntary Euthanasia

EDM number 1961 in 1992-93, proposed by Piara S Khabra on 06/05/1993.

That this House notes with interest the recent opinion poll which stated that 79 per cent. of British people support the legalisation of voluntary euthanasia; believes that it is right that adult persons, suffering from severe distress from an incurable illness, receive medical help to die at their own considered request; notes that the recent prosecution of Dr Cox exposed the hypocrisy of the current legal situation where a caring and compassionate doctor can be prosecuted for ending the agony of one of his patients; and calls on the Government to bring forward legislation to decriminalise and establish proper guidelines for voluntary euthanasia at the earliest possible opportunity.

This motion has been signed by a total of 20 MPs, 2 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
