Mirror Group Newspapers-Pay Increases And Pensions

That this House deplores the decision of the Board of Mirror Group Newspapers to award pay rises of ú45,000, a 56 per cent. increase, to its chief executive, Vic Horwood, and ú25,000, 14 per cent. to outgoing chairman, Ernie Burrington; notes that both of these senior executives are tainted by their association with the late Robert Maxwell at a time when thousands of retired or long-serving staff of Maxwell companies are worried as to whether they will get their pensions in full or at all and when MGN employees are being forced to accept pay increases of 3 per cent,; and applauds the stand taken by Mirror journalists in calling for the resignation of the entire board.
