Voluntary Organisations And Local Government Reform In Scotland

EDM number 994 in 1992-93, proposed by Ray Michie on 03/12/1992.

That this House believes that in view of government plans to restructure local government in Scotland voluntary organisations may come under attack; notes that funding to voluntary organisations may be seen by government as one of the less pressing issues to address, which is evidenced by the fact that the voluntary organisations section in the consultation paper on the Structure of Local Government in Scotland - Shaping the New Councils is the last entry in the document; deplores any attempt to disturb the good relationships and working partnerships which currently exist between local government and voluntary organisations; seeks assurances from the Secretary of State that existing arrangements will be guaranteed; and expresses grave concern that otherwise vital services to the most vulnerable people may suffer as a result of the reorganisation of local government in Scotland.
