Brent Council And Denominational Schools

EDM number 1121 in 1993-94, proposed by Ken Livingstone on 26/04/1994.

That this House deplores the decision of Tory-controlled Brent Council to end the practice of paying the fares of secondary school pupils who have to travel over three miles to reach the denominational school of their choice and primary school pupils who travel over two miles; recognises that this policy will make a mockery of parental choice and religious freedom and represents a financial penalty which will bear particularly hard on those poorer parents who are determined that their children will be educated in a school of their faith; and calls on the Prime Minister to intervene in order to reverse the policy immediately.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
