EDM number 129 in 1993-94, proposed by George Galloway on 30/11/1993.

That this House welcomes the United Nations General Assembly's latest consideration of the necessity of ending the United State's financial and commercial blockade against Cuba, in which it urged, on a recorded vote of 88 to 4, with 57 abstentions, including the United Kingdom, all states to refrain from applying laws and measures which affect the sovereignty of other states and do not conform with their international obligations regarding freedom of trade and navigation, thereby reaffirming UN General Assembly Resolution 47/19 with an increased majority; welcomes the European Parliament's recommendation of increased humanitarian aid to Cuba and its inclusion in the EC's Regional Cooperation Programme; and calls upon the United Kingdom Government to actively promote its own trade and aid programmes with Cuba, and to urge the United States of America to comply fully with the UN resolution by ending its blockade and normalising its economic and diplomatic relations with Cuba.
