MOTHERS UNDER MUNCHAUSEN'S AND THE B.P.A.

That this House welcomes the participation of the Mothers Under Munchausen's group at the press conference held by the British Paediatric Association at its headquarters at St. Andrew's Place, Regent's Park, London on 25th May to announce the publication of the Report of the Working Party on the Evaluation of Suspected Imposed Upper Airway Obstruction since it highlighted the unexplained addition to the terms of reference of the British Paediatric Association Report originally set in August 1992 which were to agree the appropriate investigation of children with suspected imposed upper airway obstruction and produce recommendations for diagnosis by adding the phrase 'to establish a basis for reasonable suspicion' before the phrase 'the appropriate investigation,' and also highlighted the change of membership in the Working Party with removal of Colin Morley, Paul Johnson, Martin Samuels and Professor David Southall and their replacement by Dr Bamford and Dr Thompson and Professor S. R. Meadow; notes that this change of personnel vitiated the whole purpose of the Report, that of resolving the professional dispute over the accuracy of home monitoring as a diagnosis for this particular form of Suspected Munchausen's Syndrome by Proxy.
