NURSES' INJURIES AT WORK

EDM number 1314 in 1993-94, proposed by Janet Anderson on 14/06/1994.

That this House recognises that many nurses are vulnerable to sustaining injuries at work; regrets that one in four qualified nurses have had time off work with a back injury sustained at work; considers that much of the cost to the Health Service of these injuries could be avoided if employers gave greater priority to the prevention of accidents and injuries; and congratulates the Royal College of Nursing Work Injured Nurses Group on its excellent record of assisting the rehabilitation and return to work of nurses who have been injured and on its support for those so severely injured that they have retired from nursing altogether.
