Bill Of Rights

That this House views with deep concern the fundamental erosion of civil liberties affecting the people of Britain since 1979; believes that the absence of a statutory right of privacy, a Freedom of Information Act and a Bill of Rights shows the present Government remains uninterested in civil liberties for British people; commends Nottinghamshire County Council for their vigilance and efforts to expose this; and welcomes their suggestion that as first steps in this direction the Government should reintroduce at the first opportunity a new Bill of Rights in Parliament and work towards the enactment of European legislation incorporating the provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights into UK legislation.
