Green Transport Week;amdt. Line 1:

EDM number 1333A1 in 1993-94, proposed by Peter Fry on 21/06/1994.

leave out from 'that' to end and add 'over two thirds of all United Kingdom households have at least one car, and that 70 per cent. of all motorists are in socio-economic groups C1, C2 (lower middle class/ skilled working class) and that they have a richer social, cultural and recreational lifestyle because they have a car; further notes that compared with a new vehicle bought in 1970 a new vehicle bought in 1994 emits no lead, emits 90 per cent. less carbon monoxide and 85 per cent. less oxides of nitrogen and volatile organic compounds, and that because of technology the amount of pollutants in tons/year due to car traffic will decrease by about 75 per cent. between 1992 and 2010; is encouraged by the work of all the motoring organisations promoting balanced transport strategies such as walking, cycling, trains and buses and supports their view that villages, towns and cities should be places where everyone including children and elderly and disabled people, many of whom are increasingly dependent on cars for access, can move freely and safely, that standards be set for clean air and a reduction in greenhouse and acid rain gases from exhaust emissions, that reliable, attractive and affordable rail and bus services should be available, that more goods should be transported by rail and water, that environmental technology in the motor industry should continue to be promoted and that the national heritage should be protected; and calls on central and local government, industry and commerce, and all organisations and people concerned for the environment to support transport strategies commensurate with these aims.'.

This is a ammendment to 1333.
