ALZHEIMER'S AWARENESS WEEK 1994

That this House welcomes the publication by the Alzheimer's Disease Society of its report 'Home Alone' highlighting the particular needs of people with dementia living alone in the community; notes that there are some 154,000 people with dementia living alone in the United Kingdom at risk of accident and neglect; expresses its concern that in a survey of psychiatrists specialising in the problems of old age 37 per cent. said that the level of support for sufferers is poor; further notes that all people with dementia without full-time carers will need continuing care in the latter stages of the disease; and calls upon the Government to ensure a sufficient supply of NHS long-term care and the adaptation of services to meet the needs of the growing number of people with dementia living alone in this country.
