Newspaper Price Wars (No. 2)

That this House welcomes the Office of Fair Trading investigation into the pricing of London-based newspapers; believes that price cutting by some newspaper proprietors will threaten not just London-based papers but also Scottish titles and the regional press; reaffirms its belief that the newspaper industry is not only an important business but also a vital organ of the democratic process; further believes that predatory pricing, with the intention of forcing rivals out of the market, will reduce choice and undermine competition; and calls on the Government to prevent this practice and to publish its proposals on media ownership without further delay.
