Birmingham Hospital Closures
EDM number 245 in 1993-94, proposed by Estelle Morris on 13/12/1993.
That this House deplores the threat to patient care in Birmingham represented by the West Midlands Regional Health Authority's current hospital closure programme and the withdrawal of 1,500 hospital beds; notes that hospital care in Birmingham is already in crisis with out-patient waiting lists of up to two years and emergency patient being left on trolleys in corridors for up to eight hours; believes that these service reductions will put lives at risk; and calls on the Secretary of State for Health to intervene directly in the hospital crisis in Birmingham and make sufficient resources available to enable changes to the city health service to be planned in the interest of patients and to protect lives.
This motion has been signed by a total of 44 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
