National Minimum Wage

EDM number 635 in 1993-94, proposed by John Spellar on 17/02/1994.

That this House notes that the United States has had a minimum wage since the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 and is therefore astonished that the Secretary of State for Employment stated in the House on 15th February that a statutory minimum wage was the last thing one would find in the United States and was supported in this by his Minister; and accordingly records its view that Ministers are not only prejudiced on the subject of minimum wage but also ignorant.
