Monopoly Position Of News Product Wholesalers
EDM number 1259 in 1994-95, proposed by Keith Vaz on 15/06/1995.
That this House is deeply concerned by the recent dramatic increases in the costs of news material supplied by wholesalers to retail newsagents; is outraged that the abuse of the monopoly position held by news wholesalers is in grave danger of forcing many family-based newsagents out of business; and urges the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Corporate Affairs to sanction the Director General of Fair Trading to instruct the Monopolies and Mergers Commission to undertake a full inquiry into the practice of carriage charges.
This motion has been signed by a total of 52 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
