Integrity Of Shelter
EDM number 1423 in 1994-95, proposed by Diana Maddock on 17/07/1995.
That this House welcomes the apology printed in the Sunday Times on 16th July, for an article on 2nd July which falsely accused Shelter of 'misusing money donated by the public'; recognises the climb-down made by the Sunday Times which now admits that Shelter is at 'the forefront of the fight against homelessness'; regrets any harm done to Shelter by the article and subsequent adverse publicity which impeded the essential work it undertakes; and urges the media not to adopt the soft option of falsely accusing charities as it reflects badly on themselves and is detrimental to the important work undertaken on behalf of dependent individuals.
