Welsh Office And Payment To Contractors
EDM number 1534 in 1994-95, proposed by Win Griffiths on 30/10/1995.
That this House expresses its concern that the Welsh Office has been unable to ensure that Brynmawr Grant Maintained School pays its bills on time for major work being carried out at the school; regrets that T. Costelow and Sons Limited have not received payment for work completed in July and have had to issue a writ against the main contractor, A.R.B. of Cardiff, who themselves have not received payment from the school; notes that until these bills are paid the school's new central heating system cannot be used and urges the Welsh Office to take immediate action rather than issue statements claiming that there is no delay and that matters are being dealt with in the usual way; furthermore notes that in 20 years of doing business with local government Mr Costelow's bills have always been paid within a month of presentation; and notes that the record of the Welsh Office in this case is lamentable and underlines the Prime Minister's lack of commitment to help small businesses.
