Padiham Field Centre And National Power
EDM number 17 in 1994-95, proposed by Greg Pope on 16/11/1994.
That this House notes that the Padiham Field Centre provides a valuable environmental resource for children and schools in East Lancashire and attracted over 4,000 children visitors in the last year; also notes that the Field Centre is under threat of closure following the decision of the site's owners, National Power plc, to cease funding the running costs of ú15,000 per year; further notes with astonishment that National Power's pre-tax profits for the last financial year were ú734 million; believes that there is a duty on energy companies like National Power to put some of their huge profits back into the environment and the community; and therefore calls on National Power to reverse its decision to cease funding of Padiham Field Centre, thereby enabling young people to continue to enjoy this valuable environmental facility.
