Clydeport Multi-Millionaires

EDM number 179 in 1994-95, proposed by Tony Worthington on 01/12/1994.

That this House deeply deplores the crude and greedy exploitation of the privatised Clydeport by a small handful of directors, who have now become multi-millionaires for a tiny outlay of their own and owners of a company employing fewer than 190 employees but which has monopoly control over maritime and related developments in an area of 450 square miles alongside the River Clyde and the Firth of Clyde; deplores the action of a Government that sold off public assets for a pittance and further records that it was the honourable Member for Eastwood, now a Scottish Office Minister, who enthusiastically promoted the Bill which enabled these directors to become multi-millionaires; and trusts that he will resist the example of parliamentary colleagues of his by pledging he will not accept a directorship of Clydeport in the future.
